Capacity Building and Community Advocacy for Girls’ Education

KnK Japan adopted a comprehensive approach to strengthen the quality, inclusiveness, and sustainability of girls’ education by integrating capacity building with community engagement. Teachers were trained in participatory and gender-sensitive classroom practices, while School Management Committees were equipped to lead school governance, oversee development plans, and improve enrollment and infrastructure outcomes. Simultaneously, Student Clubs were established and trained in leadership, hygiene, and life skills, enabling girls to foster safe and inclusive school environments.

At the community level, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were formed to address practical barriers and mobilize support for girls’ education through enrollment drives and advocacy. These efforts were complemented by awareness workshops and district-level seminars that engaged parents, religious leaders, educators, and local officials in addressing early marriage, safety, and cultural constraints. Together, these interventions resulted in improved classroom engagement, increased girls’ enrollment, and a more responsive and supportive education ecosystem anchored in both institutional capacity and community ownership.

Student-Led Initiatives (Clubs, Presentations, Enrollment Drives)

In Balochistan’s Naseerabad Division, KnK Japan’s project empowered girls through student clubs that fostered leadership, life skills, and peer advocacy. These clubs organized school events, health and hygiene sessions, and enrollment campaigns, successfully bringing out-of-school girls back to classrooms. Their efforts also promoted inclusive education, including the enrollment of students with disabilities. Through public presentations and community engagement, club members emerged as confident role models, advancing girls’ education and creating a lasting impact within their schools and communities.

Institutional Coordination and Protection Mechanisms

KnK Japan’s project in Naseerabad Division established Special Coordination Groups (SCGs) as multi-stakeholder forums to safeguard girls’ education and well-being. These district-level bodies comprising education officials, social welfare departments, and community leaders enabled coordinated action on sensitive issues like early marriage, child labour, and school dropout. Through systematic case referral, follow-ups, and legal and psychosocial support, several at-risk girls were protected and retained in school.

SCGs also influenced district education planning by integrating girls’ protection into school safety measures. Complementing these efforts, community talk shows and digital awareness campaigns amplified key messages, further promoting institutional accountability and a culture of safety for girls.
